I agree on the dated looking AF. Had the same thoughts, plus needlessly heavy on the construction.
You mentioned the Northstar 12' STC. Ours is being built right now with some requested factory mods. We decided to get it exactly because it has no slideouts and no basement, less height and weight. It will never have the wide dance hall floor space inside, but it is/appears big due to the length and layout and lots of natural lighting (big windows).
In terms of seating, Bill from TruckCamperWarehouse told us they now have flip up footrests to make lounging more comfy on the dinette, and supposedly the cushions are being upgraded this year. We'll see when we pick it up hopefully within the next few weeks whether we'll go for that option.
