- bmanningExplorerAh, the 8.1L/4.10/Allison combo...the gasser to which even the diesel guys tip their hat!
Congrats & enjoy the next 10 years with it.
The days of vehicles being shot @ 100k is long gone; I recently bought a 1999 Land Cruiser with 158k as an extra vehicle/trail explorer and it rides/drives so tight & solid you'd swear its 3yr old with 35k. - Very nice truck engine... The Chevy big block is one of the all time best engines ever made.

Skip,
I could not have said it any better... we must be in a
"golden Age" for truck manufacture. Now the "complaints" all
seemed to be focused on the creature comforts... like interiors,

Sheesh ! that appears competition worthy. Sharp. I need to
re-visit the engine bay to bring it up to your standards !

Well my engine bay is only a few months old and I bought it new. So it's easy for me to keep it up. It is kind of fun and relaxing to do though. And much easier then cleaning the bay of a tall pickup. LOL - cdlaineExplorerSkip,

- skipncharExplorerWhen someone says"they don't build them like they used to" my answer is thank heavens. Trucks are SO SO SO much better than those good old days. 100,000 miles used to be time for an overhaul and now it time for the first tuneup and usually THAT is unnecessary. My last 04 model towed my trailers over 80,000 miles and went a total of 150,000 and never needed a repair that wasn't a wear item. Cudos to American auto makers.
- cdlaineExplorerBiscuit...
Very low mileage... last check 85K. I think if you stay under
10k per year you probably should be considered low mileage...
but most of mine is under tow load.
The combo of the Allison/4.1 rear/tow haul and the 8.1
makes for a good combo for the AF tow. I drive like a nun...
I'm that guy everyone passes on the freeway... 55 works
for me. Out here in the desert I'm glad I got the tranny temp
gauge (OEM) .... reassuring.
Charles - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIISo how many miles on that '03?
- cdlaineExplorerhehehehe !
Part of the OCD... who knew it would manifest as
an engine rubber !
Truth...as the gas mileage (as expected) is problematic,
I do try to minimize the around the burb' expeditions and
"save" the truck for towing... but I'd rather drive the truck,
so not very successful.
any other engine rubbers ???

With respects to the great Mr. Haggard....
Celebrating my first 10 years with the big block (this month)...
may have just been lucky but it has been a great truck ! I hope
to get 10 more years from this one... built to tow.
Well done GM .
woohoo ! (easily amused).
Charles
Referring to the picture of your engine compartment, Charles, you obviously don't drive this truck:W so I am sure that it will last at least another 10 years.
