I totally agree about a brake controller, but how would WD bars help in the case of another hitch ball failure? The bars on the typical WD hitch would just flop around if that happened again.
In the spirit of belt and suspenders thinking, the OP should probably look into suspension upgrades and tire replacement. 3,800 pound is a lot of weight.
WD bars on the ones that I've had connected to the drawbar assembly.
I think the bars would still help with sway. Apart from the safety chains my Equal-i-zer bars would still be connected to the hitch head assembly. Perhaps other hitches would react differently.
This is purely my personal opinion, I have no other info to back this up.
