Yes, you have a factory rated 1/2 ton with a factory rated payload of almost a ton.
That said, it's a normal 1/2 ton with heavier springs. One can buy a truck like that or put any number of inexpensive aftermarket "upgrades" on most any half ton and get the same end result. (Yes I realize the base model ford 1/2 tons have a lighter duty rear axle, but afaik, any that come with the bigger engines have the 9.5" rear axle.)
Don't take this as an argument. I'm with you on the capabilities of 1/2 tons, but it's nothing new. I've been slapping overloads and LT tires on half tons and pretending they were 3/4 tons since FoMoCo still had an I6 in front of a 4 or 5 speed manual.
