Yes... it is a PIA!. I did part of the work while standing though the opening once the skylight was removed while standing on the upper bed and since the camper was off the truck I set up one level of scaffold at the front to get to the front portion of the skylight from the outside... that made it a little easier.
As far as the plastic one-time use hinges, I think I am going to try to come up with something on my own. At first I was thing of a long thin hex bolt with 2 nuts on the end (one to lock against the other since I do not want to collapse the hinge assembly) but I then thought that I don't want the threads to mar and hog the inside of the plastic(!) hinges. I am going to look into seeing if I can find a metal bushing insert with the long hex bolt ...then I will only need 1 nut. If I am successful I will post images.
