Where can I get Heki skylight hinges?

Anyone remove the Heki skylight for maintenance?

I need to reseal around the Heki skylight. It is more than just adding sealant to the existing, I need to hog up the old and install new. The sides and back are not a problem, but the front hinge side is a royal PIA! The only way to access the sealer is to remove the skylight.

To remove it, it seems as if I need to cut the hinge pins. They seem to be one time use in that they snap into place upon seating. I am going to dremel the old ones off and use nuts with a long bolt of appropriate diameter for temporary, but I would like to get original equipment back in it.

Anyone know of a place (in America) for Heki parts?

  • I went ahead and cut the pins. I tried to collapse the ends and push them out but it wasn't happening. I thought about removing the cover at the inside hinges as you suggested, but I was more concerned about trying to line that hardware back up when reassembling . It looked as if it was a little more finicky. I think I will see if I can find some long bushings with a long bolt to reattach before ordering factory parts.

I have written extensively in the past about how I really do not like the Dometic window products... and the skylight did not disappointing me yet again. It is really tough to get sealant under those front hinges. The frame is tight close to the roof surface and the plastic (!) hinges that are part of the frame flex. There is really no good way to seal under them. All I could do was clean the crud out and schmee sealant under as best I could with a putty knife.

These skylight are so delicate and made so cheesy and would never have them on any camper again.
  • You can force the hinge pins out though whether they will survive an R&R cycle is questionable - depends on how old and sun cooked they are. Try to push then out rather than pull them. An alternative if the dome has to come off is to remove the screws securing the hinge to the dome - it is sandwiched between two pieces that are screwed through it. This has a lot less chance of breakage.

Dometic USA can order the parts, but be prepared to pay a lot and wait a long time. If you get on ebay.uk or ebay.de you will find people selling parts, I have found that ordering them that way costs less, and takes less time to get, the Dometic USA.

I have the Heki midi repair document which explains removing and installing, also exploded views if you are interested, PM me with your email address.
