- Community AlumniI'm interested in ideas also. I'm planning a trip for next winter that will take me through areas where all of the campgrounds will be closed for the season. Finding dump stations shouldn't be hard. Where to spend the night and water are my biggest concerns.
- AtleeExplorer IIMost of my "boondocking" or "dry camping" is in a field next to the executive airport, next to the Va Tech campus, with lots of other Hokies.
This is where our group of 23 RV'ers "camp" or more correctly tailgate on football weekends. We do have to pay for the privilege, but there are no facilities. The university does have a dump station on the other side of campus where we can drain our waste tanks before going home.
Plus there are usually 3 or more of us who get to away games under the same conditions.
Also, if I'm between destinations while traveling, I will stay in a Walmart or sometimes truck stop. - jaycocreekExplorer IIFor years I took a couple 6 gallon water jugs and filled the trailer with those and re-filled them when going to town for supplies. Now I have several 50 gallon water containers with a spicket on the bottom for gravity feed or for filling one gallon jugs we use a lot while off grid.
99.9% of our camping is in the boonies not in forest services campgrounds or rv parks, just by the creek somewhere with know one close so we have to take a lot with us to make it a couple weeks before going to town! - jmccen58ExplorerGood to know thanks,,,,

Often a business such as a propane dealer.. If you buy from them, they will often let you fill up for free.rjxj wrote:
Where do you find places that will allow you to fill a 40 gallon tank? Do they charge? do you ask first?jmccen58 wrote:

I often find places on freecampsites.net so some places have water or I go to cheap places that may have water but no hook ups. Some $10.00 places may have central water and a dump station. I pulled into a Wendys/strip mall area in Florida and back by the parking lot they had a dump station and water. When I was more dependent on electric for charging I would go to a regular park every 4 days or so. Dump, water, charge, grocery. Some gas stations or stores will have water. I have also bought water at Walmart.
Some free spots will have an outhouse which I will use. The wife has a hard time balancing while squatting with her feet on the toilet seat because she wont sit in there so she uses the RV only. One free place had central water and flush toilet and sink. Same place allowed burying black waste at least 6 in deep and 200 ft from any lake or stream. - jmccen58Explorer

- TheGriswoldsExplorerI like to go to the motorcycle races, motorcross or streetbike and dry camp at the track. Best seats in the house!
- CavemanCharlieExplorer IIISome of the county parks I frequent either have no electricity or only have it for some sections of the park. That's OK by me. Less people in the no electric sections to bother me and they are usually more secluded in the back of the park too.
