Where Is The Storage Space?

We are looking at smaller TTs up to 24' and was surprised that many don't have any storage space, especially a closet. They may have a shirt closet but mostly it is beds which is fine but I'm wondering where does one put their clothing, hang a jacket, etc? We had a Salem 24' in the 90's and it had so much storage, a couple of closets and drawers below them. The only one that I found impressive was the 1985 Lance as it appears they take and use as many areas as possible to add a cupboard, etc. Has anyone seen any other smaller TTs that seem to have a place for most things? Clutter can be a problem in a smaller space. They dedicate so much room to the kitchen area and I see enough of that in the house!

Motorhomes and TTs are different beasts when it comes to storage. A 24' motorhome has far less space than a 24' TT because of the cab.

However, with a motorhome, you can get a hitch mounted cargo carrier coupled with a locking container that can help greatly with storage.

Funny but you are correct. When we transferred everything from our 19 ft TT to our 34ft MH we weren't sure would be enough room. Much of the MH storage is out side in cargo bays. However, the clothes closets are larger
  • We have a Jayco Jay Flight 25RKS. I know it's a little bigger than than you were looking for. It's a rear kitchen with a single slide. It has a lot of storage. A floor to ceiling pantry about 13 inches wide and 22 inches deep. Storage under the sink. Two cabinets over the sink and 1 beside the fridge. There is overhead storage over the slide out. Overhead storage over the dinette. A double door wardrobe across from the bath. In the bedroom there is overhead storage over the bed and a side closet on each side. We've over packed (2 people) for a 14 day trip and still only used about 60% of the storage. We cooked all our meals and brought 90% of our food. The RKS floor plans have lots of storage.
  • I have a 14ft. with no slides for the two of us.

I utilize the overhead storage. Clothes/shoes in duffel bags or plastic storage bags go over the cabinets over the bed. Miscellaneous items go into bins and then into the cabinets over the sofa. Plates and cutlery over the kitchen counter.

I have two shelves stacked on the counter with bins for food items. Under the sink are the pots and pans. Drinking water bottles go under the dinette-as-bed. The bathroom has a spring loaded rod with small shelves for soap, makeup, hairbrushes, and shampoo etc. The wardrobe has the TV trays, jackets, and outdoor stuff like awning lights.

Outdoor chairs, kick scooters, extra towels, oxygen bottles, fishing equipment etc. ride in the trailer and then gets stored while camping in a pop up instant tent.

  • The Minnie Winnie is nice. We love the name since our 2nd RV was a 1976 motorhome, Minnie Winnie. It was ancient and if quality in their products hasn't diminished too much, they should be making a fairly decent product.

Even in a weekend or vacation model, it just seems you need a place to put clothes. A lot of units sleep 6 and probably don't have enough of floor space for 6 pairs of shoes! Maybe they just take one set and Febreeze themselves daily.
  • I suspect that most of the buyers of small TTs are weekenders or vacation once a year users. I have noticed that to get nice large closets it would be larger TTs, 5ers, or MHs.
  • We just bought a Winnebago Winnie 2201DS because of the storage space and outside kitchen. Winnebago is also manufacturing "kissing cousins" in their Sunnybrook Remington line. Check out Winnebago floorplans at:

If you look at the 2201DS, you'll see the double wardrobe and other storage area in the bathroom. The unit also has a decent size pantry, and adequate storage in the galley. There is also storage under the entire dinette seating, and a pass thru storage area at the front of the unit. It was the most storage we could find in a trailer under 27' total length aside from a Lance model which is almost impossible to find anwhere east of the Mississippi...or at least too far from us in the Cleveland, OH area.
  • I have a 2010 Coachmen Catalina 22FB which has the storage you need.
  • With only so much sq ft they have dedicated more to kitchens, a separate table and couch and entertainment areas. They rarely have room for necessities - clothes, shoes, blankets, etc.

I am sure that someone makes a unit that will fit your likings. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective) there are a lot of models you will have to search through to find the 'semi-perfect' TT.

Good luck and have fun looking. My suggestion is a big RV show!
