Where to buy new engine 5.9 Cummins

Well looks like my 2007 5.9 Cummins to a dump and is knocking spun a rod bearing or something I think will know more later today. I am expecting that I will need a new engine. It appears that the one in there was a reman from 2008 according to the sticker on the valve cover so I am not so sure about rebuilding it. We will see. Anyone know of a good place to get another engine for a reasonable price and quality. We have a Cummins place here in El Paso however they are having trouble getting me a quote since this is a reman'd engine in there and the number they want that is on my valve cover doesn't match anything in their system.
  • Beware of some after market rebuilders... I would suggest taking a hard look at a MOPAR/cummins rebuilt crate engine as most specifications are rebuilt to original new specifications.

I know it's a long shot but I've heard bad injector/s can cause a really bad knocking noise and can be misleading that the engine itself has a problem.

Also when selecting a remanufactured engine you should consider the warranty also.

    Good luck...
  • Why would you have a re-manufactured 2008 engine in an 07 truck?

The Cummins stores are funny about engine numbers. They want an engine number for every part you want to buy.

I hope yours is fixable, good luck.

New is not an option as the 5.9 is no longer built. Have you checked with Cummins as to the cost of a rebuilt short and long blocks?
  • Thanks Bill I knew I had to get my wallet ready. Not looking forward to it but it is what it is.
  • Get your wallet ready this is going to hurt could be 8-10k depending on how many accessories are included in the rebuild (injector pump, head etc...) The number the are looking for is in the front cover, not the valve cover, it is a long (3in or so) on the side edge of the front cover looking from the drivers side at power steering and injector pump. Good luck!
