Where to camp in Yellowstone July 2016

I am planning on a father/son adventuer to Yellowstone Nationial Park. I have 2 options in regards to camping. 1st option Kodiak tent. 2nd Option 29 ft Starcraft 2700BHS Travel Trailer. Not sure of the where to camp with trailer in yellowstone. According to online reservations, most rv sites a reserved. I am indifferent. I have camp back country in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, and Wisconsin but never out in the West. What are my options for truely experencing Yellowstone either by tent or travel trailer.

  • Not sure if it still the case, but Fishing Bridge used to be hard sided campers/trailers only.
  • Your rig would be able to go into most of the campgrounds within the park.
If you want hook ups, Fishing Bridge is the only one.
We have stayed at Indian Creek north of Norris Geyser Basin. Quiet, has water in spigots around campground. Either tent or trailer would work. No reservations required, get in early.
Madison has water dump station. Need reservations early.
  • not sure but I think some areas are off limits for tents due to bears.
