Those little 12v compressors that advertise "150 psi" struggle to make 40 psi. Nowhere do they actually say "this compressor will produce 150 psi". 150psi is probably what the thing will hold before it bursts, but that pressure would have to come from somewhere else. It'll never make that.
I'm with the others, you should stop by a tire shop and have them check for and correct any leaks, you shouldn't have to be stopping and adding air during trips. Most tire places even do this sort of thing free.
