I’m sure at some point you reach dimensioning returns. But it isn’t going from 6 to 8 gears.
Did you see the Ike run GM 10 speed against RAM 6 speed? Sure didn’t shine from what I saw.
The problem is you are basing your analysis on one specific test. In the real world vehicles must perform in a much broader range of scenarios. Just like the phrase you don’t race on a dyno holds true here. Every trip or hill you drive is not pedal to the floor and see how it goes.
Well said... The 10 speed will have more options to select the right gear for the engines power band over various load and terrain situations.
Having said that one could say the 10 speed allowed the Duramax with less torque than the Cummins to equal it's performance up the Ike.
UH why not state FACTS here. RAM 6 tires and heavier.
My analysis is based on my personal experience. Also some of what I have seem.
The GM should have smoked the RAM plain and simple.
And if it had you would have Ditched that the Ram had more tires and was heavier so it was predetermined that the Dmax was first up the hill, which it was anyway, even if it was by a couple seconds. They will weigh them down and see what happens.
We have a winner. Under the test parameters, both trucks were able to pretty much achieve a "perfect score".
How so? Well, that pull is right at 8 miles. And the trucks are not allowed to exceed 60 MPH. So a perfect score would be 8.00 minutes, right? No.
They do not start the timer with the trucks @ 60 MPH. They do it from a 30MPH roll.
This will add time.. It is impossible to say just how much time from the info given.
But it will add time.
Both trucks had areas where they were able to exceed 60 MPH, but they were held back from doing so.
Hopefully in upcoming tests, they will have better matched trucks, and either take the 60 MPH restriction off, or load them up more.
12V is just gonna have to gnash his teeth till then.
It will be interesting to see his response, if his beloved Ram loses then.
Only then can a true winner be determined.
Going for more popcorn now.:B
I am thinking of a running a pool based who is the first to pop a vein out of their forehead, or have a full blown stroke over this foolishness :B
