Little overall feedback.
Difference between my previous 3:73 trucks and the new Aisin 3:42 towing both heavy and light is I'm running about 200 lower rpm at interstate (75 mph) speeds and fuel economy is better by about 1.5 mpg. But DEF is helping some here.
Grunt wise, I also pull very heavy loads off road up 15-20% mountain grades in 4x4 low. Based on my experience, I can't see any difference between the 3:42 and the 3:73 in either towing condition.
IMO the Aisin is the way to go.

My 2 cents:
I own a Duramax and it has the 3:73 rear end. I think GM like Ram Trucks would program the transmission to match the engine/rear gear ratios to give the best power and economy.
385HP/850 lb-ft with Aisin 6 speed
Plenty of power for the 3:42 gears
