The truck should be geared such that it can drop out of the two overdrive gears to pull hills in direct at an rpm where it can make the needed HP. 4th gear on the Aisin transmission is a 1:1 ratio - most efficient gear to be in. If the engine is running between 2200 and 2900 rpm here is the speeds the various differentials will give you in 4th gear.
3.42 gears 61 - 81 mph
3.73 gears 56 - 74 mph
4.10 gears 51 - 67 mph
If you are not pulling many hills or want to maximize your fuel economy you can easily get by with the 3.42 ratio and just let the truck drop to 3rd on the odd hill. Third gear and 3.42 gears with the Aisin will give you 46 - 60 mph running the engine between 2200 and 2900 rpm.
To get your load moving the 850 lb ft of torque and 6 speed transmission will offer gobs of torque with even the 3.42 axle. 850 (lb ft} x 3.74 (1st gear) x 3.42 (rear axle) yields almost 11000 lb ft of torque to the rear axle in first gear. Back in 2005 the Dodge Ram with the Cummins and 4.10 rear axle woiuld only put about 5000 lb ft of torque to the rear axle in first gear.
I would choose the 3.42 axle and let the truck drop to 3rd on the very odd hill.
