I think I narrowed down to getting the following combo:
- 2013 Ram 3500 Megacab Dually Diesel with short bed
- 2014 DRV 36ft 3-slide model
I've been looking at the Ram configurator and realized there are 3 different axle ratios ranging from 3.42 to 4.10. I assume 3.42 is the most fuel economical version but with the least amount of power. And even with 3.42, there's more than 20k lb towing capacity so it easily meets the DRV's GVWR.
So is it safe to assume that I can choose 3.42 or should I look for higher gear variations?
Good choice on the Ram and MS!
I have the 3:42 gears and I am very happy with the performance. If I were you I would either go with the 4:10 or the 3:73. I am sure either would pull the big MS with ease.
I find your post somewhat contradictory. On the one hand you're very happy with the performance of your 3.42 ratio and yet the op will have 30% more torque than you at the flywheel and yet you are suggesting he get 3.73 or 4.10 gears?
