Crystals only form when the DEF has had a chance to dry. My filler neck occasionally has a few crystals in there, but nothing much. You're never going to see crystals "After" you fill up. The crystals dissolve in the distilled water.
But again, I buy at the pump because it's convenient for me and on the way to a trip (work, play, etc...). If I didn't have a convenient truck stop to top-off on DEF, I'd be like the other members here and buy the jugs. However, I like using the pump DEF as it's the same DEF used in the local bus fleet. Many DEF using buses well past 200,000 miles on that "Pump" stuff. DEF supply is also always fresh as well. So no shelf-rot risk. So I think the worry of contamination is largely over blown. The only contaminant I'd be worried about is "Salt". A teaspoon of salt can ruin a 150 gallon tote. Chances of that happening are very low.
