Which E rated ties have the most weight capacity?

I will need to be replacing the tires on my 1 ton. I have noticed there is a bit of a difference in tire weight capacity ratings. I currently have Firestone Transforce that has 3680 lbs per tire. While looking at other tires, I have noticed some have as little as 3200 lbs per tire.

Just curious if there is a tire that has a higher rating than the 3680 lbs??

    This is true.

I just looked up some representative tires and the only difference I could find in LT245/75R16 E was the 3042 vs 3086 which I believe is simply the difference between. TRA and ETRTO rating system. I believe they are in the process of harmonizing the two systems and right now you see a slight differential based on the different air pressure charts. It doesn't really mean anything. It's just an artifact.

Not quite. today for a given tire size and Load rating (C,D,E etc.) tires also have a load index giving the exact load carrying capability. You won't find much variation amongst a given load rating and size, but if you look around you will likely see some variation in load capacity. And the variation will correspond to the tire load index.

And it is more common to see a variation in car tires vs. LT tires.

look up tire size/capacity. Bout every tire model and every tire website has a list with size, weight, capacity, tread depth etc for all sizes of a tire model in a list.

It's because all tires not made equal. Some have a bit more steel in them or the compounds they use

True, but generally tires of the same size and general classification are rated the same.
Bigger the tire, the higher the capacity. Taller sidewalls increase load capacity over shorter sidewalls as well.

  • Look for the tires with the higher load index (ply ratings are outdated).

Yes, for the same size, there are different load ratings.

I'm guessing you have a 1-ton SRW with 18" or 20" tires. If you want a higher load capacity (>3680 lbs.) you'll probably need to upgrade to a slightly larger 295/70/18 tire. That'll net you a 4080 lb. load rating (129 load index). If you have 20" tires, you'll need to upgrade to a 295/65/20 tire (load index 129; 4080 lbs.). 18"/20" E-rated LT tires with load capacities/ratings above 3680 are very limited.
