My 2 cents, I would look into a 3/4 diesel. I have a 2015 Ram 2500 Laramie (fully loaded) 4x4 with the Cummins engine. Towing my 6-7K 32ft TT i get 10-11 MPG but my truck barely downshifts out of 6th gear pulling it. The only way i know i have my trailer behind me is a little bit higher boost when towing. I recently took a road trip from southwest Texas to Pennsylvania with no trailer and i averaged 21MPG. Also I always hand calculate my MPG, dont believe the lie o meter in the dash.
Around town i usually see 16-17MPG.
I will say that the payload rating of 2250 on my truck is a joke. Ram rates the payload less so they can keep the GVW at 10K. My TT with 800-900lbs tongue weight barely squats the truck an inch.
Edit: As a price point, i paid 51k for my truck brand new last year.
The Titan XD is a nice truck but not great for heavy towing. Its still a 1/2 ton truck.
