My last truck needed suspension and wheel upgrades for the weight it was carrying but was never a slouch in performance and was left with stock engine and transmission even after the warranty was long gone. My current truck carries all the weight I can load and keeps any speed I ask of it, so it is mostly stock except for the bed, boxes, gooseneck and receiver (give me a break, it is a chassis cab).
After the warranty expires, I may consider modifications to increase durability/reliability/serviceability but see no current need to increase performance.
