- BedlamModeratorPeople have different ideas of metrics for performance which you can see in this thread. It reminds me of the old story about the slow and steady tortoise or the fast stop and go of the hare. In racing, the fastest car is not always first because it is not just about who has the most powerful engine...
- srt20ExplorerIf you don't mod your truck, or are against modifications for your truck, WHY ARE YOU IN THIS THREAD??
Read the threads title! It's about modifications, not if you think it's a good idea.
So many trolls! - Paul_ClancyExplorerThe argument is pretty simple and spend enough time on the tuner sites you will see the broken crank, melted piston guys are running the tuned trucks. There is no unlimited magic pile of cash for me so I need an affordable and reliable rig for mountain towing. Pushing anything past its design limits = $$$ and downtime. Also there is no guarantee parts from any after market supplier are superior to stock.
- ThreebigfordsExplorerI keep hearing all this reliability reliability reliability ...blah blah blah...
Where's this written in stone rule that says you can't modify a vehicle and retain or even improve the reliability.
I've modified every vehicle I've ever owned and never suffered what I would consider reliability issues.
Now if your worried about voiding a warranty that's one thing, but to say you're leaving it stock to improve the reliability...I just don't see it.
You can replace almost any part with a superior aftermarket product if you are willing to pay for quality.
If you do your research, you can often head off known factory weak points in these trucks by modifying them with aftermarket parts, thereby improving it's reliability. If that also happens to improve the performance, well that's just a bonus. - S_DavisExplorerWell our 09 2500HD started as the tow rig, then the wife decided she wanted to race it. She took it to the NHRA division 6 championships in 2014 and 2015. These are the mods.

Now I have a 2013 2500HD and it tows the 09 to the track:) - Used to run my Mustang down at the local drag strip. Got that out of my system. Now reliability is the measure of performance to me. Although I did swap in some 4.10 gears to replace the 3.55 ratio. Puts the existing power in the right spot far more often.

I actually got grease in my front driveline U joint today! Had to remove it to do the job. Is that a performance mod????
Since the hijack is in full force, lol, what kind of needle is that?
I've been using an actual needle fitting for the front drive shaft but seem to destroy it and only get grease in it about 1of 3 times!
