Who checks their oil?

After doing an oil change?
Do ya dump in the reccomended amount of oil, put the cap on, slam the hood down and takeoff?
Or do you check to make sure it reads right on the dipschtick?

  • My routine is add the oil, let the engine run for a few minutes while checking for leaks, take the truck for a short ride, let it sit for 10 minutes and check the oil level again. I only had a problem once, the oil filter gasket was leaking and I had to replace it. I check my oil every day before we start the truck and head out.
  • I check the dipstick just to make sure it is where it is supposed to be.

I always check the level on the dipschtick to make sure it's correct. :)
I think not checking it after an oil change is taking a chance. The dipstick is the only way to check the oil level, why not check?
  • I check and recheck at least weekly when not on the road. Daily when RVing.
