Who has a Kodiak 300BHSL? What's your tow vehicle?

Hey all, I am wondering who of you has a Kodiak 300BHSL TT... I just picked up a 2014 300BHSL and I'm curious to what your tow vehicle is. This particular trailer isn't that heavy however it's awkwardly long for a bumper pull making for an interesting tow experience... I'm thinking I need to get a bigger truck -- what do you have?
  • The WDH moves some weight back to the TT and some to the TV front axle(which is still added wt to the payload). Then add back on the wt of the WDH itself. Most people will carry some water at some point whether it is fresh or waste and end up with 1000# or more cargo wt. You asked for input and now you have it. Operating your TV at these limits is totally your decision but I wouldn't do it.
  • I plan on running empty (no h20 on board) and fully loaded in the scales we had only about 400lbs worth of gear. Last, doesn't the WDH reduce tongue weight? I thought the bars took weight off the hitch and distributed it to the front wheels and the camper axles?
  • The 830Lb tongue weight is for an empty trailer. When you load 1000 to 1300Lbs of cargo to a 7531# dry wt trailer, the tongue weight grows to 1100 to 1200Lbs (13% of loaded trailer weight). Now you've used up all your payload capacity.

That's 3/4 ton duty, or HD F-150. It's borderline for my 3/4 ton Burb due to 1000 pound receiver rating. You need far more payload than a 2013 Quad or Crew cab Ram half ton.

A caution about that floorplan and competitors with similar ones. Access to fridge, pantry, bathroom, and bunkhouse are all limited with slides in.

Real quick -- I put my vin # into Ram's Towing & Payload calculator and with the 830lb tongue weight + cargo on the truck, I am still under payload by 300-400 lbs + still have room to add another 1,000lbs in the trailer. I have the 3.92 gears + max tow, air bags, wdh, electric breaks, electronic sway control etc... so I don't see why I shouldn't tow it with this truck -- is it a weight thing?

Thanks for the feedback... I am thinking about trading up to a 3/4 ton... I don't want to but I'm thinking it's probably the safest thing for the family... Thanks!
