Algorithm I believe, like the oil change is calculated. I’ve had fuel limps in the 50-60 percentile before, so it’s not volume used or pressure related.
If it is not measured off an actual flow pressure and/or volume sensor, or even a good proxy like amp / volt used by fuel pump (energy to pump, corrected by viscosity-temp relationship), I would not trust the gauge as far as I can throw it.
