Who here is using a hitch extension?

I have a small "Malone" brand bolt together kayak trailer I tow with a 34" hitch extension on my class V OEM hitch. I use a couple of HD nylon ratchet straps the same way the big boys use chains with turn buckles to keep the extension from flopping around. The entire trailer which I have modified to include a soft zippered cargo carrier under the boats for all the paddles, life jackets, carts and other gear weighs less than 1,000 pounds fully loaded with either three kayaks or two kayaks and one canoe. Works fine!
