Who is towing with RamBox truck?

I am in the market for a new Ram 3500. The RamBox option is now available on SRW 3500 and I'd really like to have it.

Dodge/Ram will not install the factory 5th wheel hitch with RamBox option; likely due to clearance restrictions.

I already own a Reese Airborne with Sidewinder that I bought for my present shortbox 3500. (expensive, but love it)

Is anybody towing with that hitch in a truck with the RamBox option? If so, I'd sure appreciate hearing your opinon/experience....maybe a few pix?

thanks,
  • It's an $1195 option, at least on the 1500. Nice concept, but IMO poor execution. Adding a tonneau cover or canopy makes the RamBox useless. They would be more practical if they could also open from the side.
  • Skip the RamBox. I think it's more gimmicky than useful. There are so many more useful aftermarket storage options. I'm not sure what the upgrade cost is, but its likely far more than the aftermarket components. Imagine what your bedsides and hatch cover will look like if someone tries to break into it with a crowbar, which I'm sure they could easily do...especially since Ram advertises these boxes for firearm storage.
  • Last winter there was a Rambox truck towing a Domani in our park. Don't know what kind of hitch he had but it wasn't a gooseneck.
  • That Ram box would work fine with a gooseneck trailer. If a fifth wheel trailer had a very vertical pin box, instead of one that juts out forward, it would work fine with a fifth wheel too.
  • My understanding is you can't have the ram box and tow a fifth wheel as it decreases ur bed width on the interior.
Basically you wouldn't beable to have it swing around. The trailer would swing and make contact with the bed rails and crush.

Here is a photo just for an idea of why you can't.
