All of my 4 wheel vehicles have had Parking Brakes.....either foot operated pedal or hand pull operated handles
I have never relied on 'parking pawl' in auto trannies to hold.
I do have faith in leaving in gear (1st gear) on a manual tranny
Regardless of type of tranny habit (drilled into by my DAD) I automatically engage the 'parking brake' device prior to exiting the vehicle
Also find myself out of habit turning front wheel towards curb/side of road if pointing downhill and away from curb if pointing uphill old habit
My motorcycles...center stand if so equipped otherwise side stand in gear
