Any thoughts, possibly from someone in the industry, why some RV manufacturer's produce nearly identical trailers under different names? Basically same trailer with different decals. This came to mind via another post regarding comparison. Why?

Ford/Lincoln/Mercury.......Buick/Cadillac/Pontiac.....Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth...... Why?

Since profits are derived from efficiency, making and selling more product is the goal of any successful business. Making products for the "competition" is the easiest way to do just that. So, the manufacturers make products for several different markets, and sometimes the products are exactly the same. Another possible reason has to do with marketing agreements with dealers. If a dealer has a territory but the manufacture feels the market can handle more product than the dealer is selling, they they will sponsor an additional dealer to sell the same product under a different name. That keeps the manufacturer from violating the non-compete agreement.

Kind of like...everyone knows that GMC Sierra is better than Chevy Silverado....:)

Uh. Who cares? What's the point of your question? This is common all over the world. Its call rebranding or private labeling in generic terms. What's the question here? I'm a bit lost.

This is like the old "you get what you pay for" saying that I find annoying at times. While you usually get better quality if you pay more, it certainly doesn't always happen. A lot of people think that just because they pay more for one tire over another, then that automatically makes them a better tire.

Brand name is huge in the world of marketing. My first camper was an Allstate tent trailer identical to the manufacturer Nimrod's unit. Allstate also sold an automobile that was actually a Henry-J with the Allstate name. You can put "Coleman" on just about anything; just pay them the royalty. The present Coleman trailers are made by Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. and mostly the same as their own models.

And in addition to car names there are the food products - Packaged by ????? Just change the label.

It's called Badge Engineering.

Look at all the Chinese built portable generators for more examples.
They have many different names but, are the same basic generator.

Marketing. Its like why do people buy the brand name green beans when the store brand is $.20 less and canned on the same canning line? Perception is reality.

I bought a Silverado cuz it was cheaper, then rebadged it with GMC badges...viola' better truck.....:B:B......Dennis

When we were shopping we saw exactly that. The same TT, the build, frame, construction. The only difference was the name and graphics.

The difference in price was 6K. They were also sold at the same dealership. I wonder how hard it was for him to remember which was the better quality and the best price, LOL
