I like the really low reverse gear in the 10 speed. Always wondered why they didn't do this standard...it's not like people are doing 40mph in reverse for miles. Who cares if idle in reverse is 3mph rather than 5mph backing up 30ft to get out of a parking space...worst case, give it a little gas to get 5mph.
I agree, it just makes sense to have a lower geared reverse, at least as low as first, but lower yet, like the 10-speed, even better. The old HD 4-5 speed stick shifts often had the "granny" gears first/reverse. I remember backing heavy trailers, even uphill, just by letting out the clutch, no need to touch the go pedal. The tall geared reverse, would be my only complaint, with my current Ford 6-speed. I do use 4-low reverse sometimes, when backing slow uphill.
