I like the really low reverse gear in the 10 speed. Always wondered why they didn't do this standard...it's not like people are doing 40mph in reverse for miles. Who cares if idle in reverse is 3mph rather than 5mph backing up 30ft to get out of a parking space...worst case, give it a little gas to get 5mph.
Since automatics use planetary gears, I think the reverse ratio is a consequence of forward ratios. With the 10 speed there are many more options to make reverse.
