30 mpg and decent performance with the ability to haul 1000lbs of stuff plus...
In the near future, I'm guessing there will be a hybrid or electric pickup truck with those kinds of benefits.
At work we use a couple of Ford Escape Hybrids and average just over 25 MPG. We do a manual calculation to determine the mileage. The dash fuel economy guage shows an average of 29 MPG. It handles 4 adults and tools very well.
