Another example/reason why I bought new: when I got my trailer, I went over all the seams and touched up caulk. The factory boys actually did a fairly good job of caulking all the seams on top and sides....the parts you can see.
But, I layed down under the trailer, and found all sorts of places where they did not caulk at all. At the edges of the slideout room, I found a couple small places at the corners where trim did not go all the way to the edge, leaving exposed plywood of the floor. This is an area where road spray would soak this. The trim piece was not caulked at all. Further, the trim piece had pre-punched holes in it for screwing it up to the floor. Every other hole had a screw in it. So all those empty holes were a potential entry point for water. Everything under the trailer that needed to be caulked got done by me.
If I would have bought used, would the first owner have been that meticulous about sealing things up ? Maybe. Maybe not. I wanted the best shot at this thing lasting me for many years.
Caulk is your friend....water is your enemy in this case.
