The 'air admittance valves' under kitchen and/or bathroom sink may not be staying fully closed and the furnace return air draw could be sucking odor up thru drain line from grey tanks....they can smell just as bad as black tank.
We do have one of these under the sink in the kitchen. We have just emptied a full basin load of water down the drain, and DW says she can smell "something" . So it could be the AAV. How do you tell if they are working or not ? Ours seems to be a hat with holes in the side that goes down into the main pipe held by a screw thread collar. Of course, it's totally inaccessible - well if I had elastic arms maybe I could get to it !! Need a small boy to get in the cupboard under the sink ! Don't have small boys here - it's an Adult only park ! Ain't camping fun sometimes !! I guess we'll just buy a new one and install it. How long do they last ? (in Arizona - which dries everything out.)
Probably have one (AAV) under bathroom sink also.
They are used to prevent 'P' traps from getting sucked dry when draining waste tanks-----allows air into drain line downstream of 'P' traps.
They do look like a hat with slots on side. Just a simple rubber flapper held in place by a tang. Get pulled down by suction in sink drain line when dumping waste tank. Then the tang pulls them closed.
They just screw on/off by hand.
Now for the fun part.......getting to it :B
I had to remove a kitchen drawer then stick my hand/arm/shoulder thru drawer opening while smashing my face up against the counter kneeling on bad knees---fortunately I have a very strong grip.
Next time I think I might try a strap wrench to give me a bit more reach.
They can last for years and years OR dry out and lose flexibility in just a couple of years.....
Check with neighbors---you know that tall lanky long armed one for help! :B
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
