Why does my battery have two in-line fuses?

My camper has a 30amp system on board and I'm switching over to two 6v batteries and as I'm cleaning up my wiring I noticed that I have two in-line fuses. My main red wire ties into a 50 amp in line fuse right before the battery and then goes to the positive post. There is a smaller gauge (12 gauge maybe) blue wire that then ties into a 30 amp in line fuse right before the battery and then goes to the positive post. Any ideas as to why I would have two in line fuses and do I really need both?
  • It doesn't matter where they go. Each wire needs a fuse to protect it. Different size wires need different size fuses.
  • One of them is the original, probably the larger one. The other one could be where someone added outlets or lighting and fished the wiring directly off the battery, rather than from the 12V bus.

Blue may be for the brakes, does it go to the brake-a-way switch?

No, here are two blue wires. One does go to the break away cable but not the fuse. The other blue one goes into a large junction box so I'll have to open that up as there is no blue wire coming out the other side. LOL!
  • Thanks! I don't have slide outs and no power jacks. Trying to determine where the blue wire goes but haven figured it out yet.
  • What he said... Where does the smaller wire go? Many times it's something added on at the dealer. You probably do need that circuit.
