I love these discussions.
1. Show me the data that proves total profits are higher from the lower volume ST tire than from the higher volume LT tires. Per tire yes. But if LTs replaced STs I suspect the tire maker's profits would be about the same.
2. More importantly, show me any DOT data that shows a higher failure rate for ST tires over LT tires.
3. Just because some STs are recommended for trailer use only, does not mean they are illegal for car use. Foolish perhaps because the stiffer sidewall resist turning and the tread is designed for towing. Again quote me the statute.
4. If you choose to believe it is all profit driven that is fine. Just forget about the liability side.
LT tires and ST tire will be with us for a long time. The choice is up to the individual.
