Why not diesel electric trucks?
If a single diesel electric locomotive can pull 27,000,000 pounds, why has it not been scaled down to pull 20-40,000 pounds yet?

Poor efficiency. Although I would like the idea of skipping the transmission.
Direct connect on the highway and use electric at low speeds around town.
Continue with the electric power boost at speed and regenerative for braking or descending speed control.
