As for the weight axle rating, I likely didn't properly convey what was told to me by someone in the know. Long story short, my mindset was to look at door jamb sticker payload rating, add tongue weight, human weight, and dog. But as explained, it's a little more complicated.
Basically front and rear axle weight, minus vehicle weight. This is all completely dependent on a good WD hitch, then is where expertise comes in. How much weight is actually transferred to front axle, back to camper axle, etc. Lot more to it than I'm likely conveying and only the scale will tell the story in the end.
Andy often uses Henley Arrow I'm told, but haven't got that far yet. He also reinforces hitch, among a few other things. Enough custom touches from the towing guru to justify a 13 hour road trip. Like I said, if buying today, would get a truck. But that doesn't mean a truck is needed, nor necessarily the best choice for us. Which is purpose of this thread, to better determine between the two.
