Really? What line on your 1040 relates to the EV surcharge?
Because they are taxing me to fund a rebate for you to buy one...you want to buy one, fine...if the company survives, great...but when you make me pay for it, I get say.
BTW any tax credit to Tesla Buyers ENDS December 31, 2019.
Others beat me to it.
Even with the tax credit coming to an end (tesla is fighting to change and extend it)...in most areas, you pay no where near the fuel tax, which is intended to pay for the roads you drive on. There has been some move to increase registration fees but so far, it's not nearly as much as the gas tax collected.
So how much does a Tesla wear out and degrade the roads?
Any vehicle with weight will wear out and degrade roads. The heavier they are the more they degrade the roads. The damage a vehicle does is directly proportional to it's weight. This is the reason why many roads and bridges have weight limits. With Tesla's and other BEV's being heavier than average vehicles, they will be causing more damage than a comparable ICE yet paying less to repair that damage.
This is one of the challenges that the Tesla semi and other BEV semis will have to face. Since their batteries are so heavy, they will have to carry less in order to stay within legal limits which means more vehicles(and more road degradation) to carry the same load a ICE semi could. Weight is one of the main reasons why fuel cell semi's are being taken more seriously in the heavy duty truck market than BEV's. - LynnmorExplorer

Is this question about the roads built by fuel tax money, or some other roads? - notevenExplorer IIIWhat % of fuel taxs collected goes directly to transportation infrastructure?

Yes, they get rebates, often get cheaper plates(depends on state) do not pay highway use taxes, and get to use the carpool lanes anytime.time2roll wrote:

The bottom line where the total tax is listed is where the hogs come to the trough.
Hopefully the rebates come to an end and then taxes are collected to fund the highways.
As usual, those at the trough do not see anything wrong with this.
It is real easy to be liberal with other peoples money.
Sure is, just ask the Defense Dept. - JRscoobyExplorer II

This is one issue that would absolutely terrify me if I had a new vehicle. Maybe if it would give me a notification, telling me what issue they wanted to fix, what the planned to pay if the fix did not work, maybe. But if it is like Microsoft, where computer working fine, I turn off, and it says "Updating" Next morning, nobody can steal the pictures I took of the timing marks when dismantling that old Spicier 10 speed. I can't get them, but nobody can steal.valhalla360 wrote:

LOL! How much of the government budget goes to military? And how much of what the military does is to protect oil? Why do the oil companies still get tax breaks? Cheap access to oil under the peoples land? - valhalla360Navigator
