I love mine as well, and th fuel does not concern me a bit. Newer Diesels with all the emission controls don't get that good mpgs either... If somebody is honest about it then they will tell u. Right now we have an 11 model 6.7 Cummins in a 3500 dually at my parents house. Pulls really good, but compare to the 01 duramax the mpgs are not so good. I realize it has more power but emissions do play a big role in this....I think my mom got 150k or more on it now, been a good truck. She only gets a few more mpgs thing then I do.... Not enough for me to justify diesel these days. People tend to look down on gas engines these days because of all the power diesel puts out. But many like me enjoy simplicity and reliability of the gas engines. The 6.0 out performs in some cases the other offerings. To me being an engine of old design now, that says a lot. I am going to use a tune just to reduce TQ management. GM is not the only maker doing this and I believe that more will follow suit in utulizing TQ management for Cafe standards and other reasons they can find. The problem with diesels currently for my likening is you got to pay to play. When it breaks and it will, it will cost u! Look at some of the post over the years... And all these programmers for diesels promising so much more power, yes it can but at such a high cost of failure. I would never buy a diesel that had one...running that truck hard to show off or prove a point. Not a good thing, I'm only 43, drive my gmc like Ms.Daisy, I can assure u that all my vehicles are extremely well maintained. I plan to enjoy my 6.0 for several years to come....
It's hard to compare a 3/4 ton SRW to a 1 ton dually. They being said, I feel more comfortable pulling with a diesel, both in fuel mileage and just low rpms. Both have their place and advantages.
