"Fairly common" yes I agree with that.....but that doesn't make it right.
It is pretty easy to distinguish someone who just doesn't like something from the one who actually hates it to the point of soapboxing against it at every opportunity and degrading those folks who have a different opinion.
And as far as deviating from the original intent:
I think it's more important to express yourself clearly and concisely without using the jargon of the day and without stirring up trouble when that wasn't your intent.....than it is to start a discussion of the merits of anything in such a round about way.
With your background you should know that LABELS are generally not a good thing as they will very likely offend somebody or create ill will where none really exists otherwise.
