If you plan on upgrading to a fifth wheel, you might want to take a leap to a 3500 series truck, with enough cargo rating to take on a 2,500 pound pin weight. It will make towing a light travel trailer a breeze!
The 2500 can tow a lot of travel trailers, as long as you don't have a optional crewcab and more than about 500 pounds of passengers. The diesel option is a lot of weight, so make sure that the GVWR and GV curb weight have a 2,000+ pound difference.
