- danimal53Explorersearch the forums for generator to run AC, i came across a chart once regarding minimum genny needed to run certain things. i seem to remember 13,500btu AC needing a 3100W generator. at least that was the one i decided I would need (if i ever wanted to get one).
- On a cool day at sea level maybe. Hot day at higher elevation good chance of no.
I have a Kipor rated 2300 surge 2600 and a Dometic 13.5 A/C. Was inconsistent. I did add a timing delay circuit to the blower fan to get the compressor started. That worked well but not enough to start in ECO mode.
Eventually I gave in as I don't want to listen to a generator all day or night anyway. If it is that hot I am headed for hookups, higher elevation or just sweat it out. - mikakujaExplorerI guess I should clarify my last post. A quality inverter style gen (Honda, Yamaha etc) should have no issues in the above stated watts. Offshore brand inverter gen's are hit and miss, more often than not the specified numbers are fictional at best.
Offshore contractor style generators should have no issues running your A/C in the stated watts. Reliability and noise levels are the bigger issues here. - BumpyroadExplorerI thought they usually put 2800s in small RVs, if so, there is a reason.
bumpy - mikakujaExplorerI agree with 2oldman... It all depends on the generator and whether or not their ratings are fictional.. Definitely borderline.
I had a Generac IX2200 and it would not run my A/C. I could occasionally get it to start on low but it wouldn't run long before kicking the auto protect. It also had issues running a microwave. It would only start the microwave about half the times I tried using it.
I ended up buying a Champion 3100w and it works perfectly. - 2oldmanExplorer IImaybe, if you're talking about a generator and those ratings are actually true.
