Then you should have a tow rating of 9.1k if it is a 6.5 bed or 9.3k if it is a 5.5 bed according to Ford. I would still re-gear it before towing that much though.

Unless you are looking for a reason to upgrade trucks, then tell the wife it only tows 7.7k and you need a new one. I won't tell ;)

Hmm, that is odd. According to Fords body builder, towing guide, and brochure for that year, all of the 3.73 rear ratio configurations in a 4x4 5.0L crew cab are rated above 9.1k. Only the 3.55 rear ends are 7.7k.

The max an F150 5.0 4x4 Crew Cab can tow in that year is 9,300 lbs with a 3.73 rear end. The 3.55 rear end is rated at 7,700 with all else being the same but the rear end gear ratio. Maybe a 4.10 gear swap might put you where you need to be.

Sounds like you'll be way over, and 35" tires will make it even worse as far as towing power goes.
