Wind River discount off MSRP

I am hoping others are willing to share how much of a discount off the MSRP they have been able to negotiate on Wind River trailers? Or other Outdoors RV brands? My husband is convinced we would be insulting our local dealer by offering 70% of MSRP (a 30% discount). He thinks the RV market has improved and deals like this can't be had anymore. I pointed out that we visited 3 dealerships on Saturday and we were the lone shoppers on all 3 lots. What do you all think?
  • I hit 30% off by searching the internet and finding the lowest available price (extremely low). I then printed out the web page and gave it to my local dealer. I told him I could always take a drive to Georgia to by it at that price. He dropped rather than lose a sale.
  • 30% discount is very reachable. Agree you might even make it a smidge more or ask that they toss in the WDH or something else of decent value. Our local dealer swears he's practically giving you the camper and won't hardly cover his costs at about a 10% discount. And the guy won't budge. That's why we drove from TN to OH to RVWholesalers to get both our HTT and new TT....we were better than 30% on each. We saved over $4000 after trip expenses on the HTT and around $11,000 on the TT. On our HTT, we had some communications glitches with our original salesman and after chatting with the owner and getting a serious salesman, when we got ready to close the deal, he said he was going to have them install a slide cover to make up for the confusion. A few hundred dollar item. If you can't come close to that 30%, suggest you keep shopping.
  • I checked around at other dealers out of the area to compare. It helps if you find a model that you want that is sitting on their lot. I ended up traveling a ways to find the deal I was happy with. We have been happy with our Wind River.
  • Thanks for all the helpful info - now I can tell my husband everyone on Woodall's says he is wrong, LOL! I offered 30% off MSRP on our last RV and the dealer accepted with no debate and I still kick myself for not starting at 40% and ending up at 35% or 33%.

X2 - Who cares about their feelings? Why be the topic of water cooler conversations regarding those suckers who paid our asking price?
  • We bought ours at 28% off MSRP a few months ago. We had several dealers willing to accept similar deals. In our case I haggled through emails on both purchase price and trade in value. I had already visited several dealers as well as scanned ads online and knew the trailer I wanted and the price they should be willing to sell. When we reached agreement I headed to the dealer and picked it up. Markup on RV's is FAR higher than cars. In retrospect I most likely could have gotten them down a bit more but I got the trailer I wanted at a fair price so I'm happy!
  • I would even start at more than that if 30% off is where you want to end up. I got close to 40% off mine plus tax & license back in March.
  • I would "insult" him. All the dealer can say is no. Leave your phone number. Walk away, they will be calling you shortly.
