Windjammer awning "BANG"

Every time I extend the main awning on our 2016 Windjammer 3029W I get this big bang from the awning that shakes the trailer. Sounds like it's hanging up on the front strut and then letting go. Retracting is fine.

Had it back to the dealer and they say it's a known problem with Windjammer awnings because of some delay in the mechanism.

Sounds fishy to me as the second awning over the dining room slide never makes this noise and it works fine. Both awnings have the metal shield that covers it when retracted.

Anyone else had this problem??

Many thanks,
  • I have a 2014 windjammer. My awning does the same. Rear arm tends to hang up while putting awning out so it is in the "dump" position. As it gets close to fully open it pops up to the normal position with a loud sound.

No harm done and everything still works great

  • Mine does it too... I don't think its hurting anything, so I don't particularly worry about it. Perhaps you could monitor which arm is getting stuck, then you can watch the arm and see where it is sticking while someone else slowly extends the awning. Wherever it is sticking or binding, make sure its not bent and perhaps give it a shot if a dry wax lubricant spray... see if that solves it.
  • Thought I would get back on this awning "banging" problem. here it is May of 2016 and the awning still bangs each time I put it down.
Forest River said it's a known problem and can't do anything about it????
    Yea right...........:h:M:?

    Many thanks,

I'm calling BS on the dealer. I've got the similar Windjammer 3001 and my awning works perfectly. I would contact Forest River. Their customer service is pretty good.
  • Just heard from "Roger" at Forest City and they are looking into the problem. Said he would get back to me when they have found a solution.
    happy trails,
  • Mine does the same. I can't tell where it's hanging up, but there's no wear spots and doesn't seem to be getting worse, so I'll probably just let it be.
