Window AC in a Truck Camper?

I've often thought about changing to a window unit, but then I lose a window. Maybe when we're done "updating" the interior and it's brighter inside. Would gain clearance too.

Yeah,I am thinking the rear window as permanent but the little 5K is so lite that, why would I make a permanent change.Mixed feelings and not many or any guides...Did I mention quiet compared to the roof tops..

The roof tops are a rip off and do not cool as well as a window units from first hand knowledge..

But,If it ain't Torklift,it don't fly.(laughing)

They are all over the place in south Florida. It must work just fine...

I hate the RV AC for adding 1 foot to already tall set, but what happen to those low-profiles AC that were available 20 years ago?
Everything is ripp-off when it comes to RV part.
Try to compare $7 household door lock to $90 RV lock that needs replacement every few seasons with minimal use.

A game chager would be IF the fat cat slackers at Coleman and Dometic were to switch over to inverter compressors, but when was the last time they offered up any true innovation, eh ??

The problem is,everyone goes with the flow..How many window units do you see around without thinking, "Redneck setup" when it is more efficient than a roof top without worry of Gen size at 400 watts.4 amps.?

Small travel trailers come with a window unit installed in the wall..More floor space than any TC yet TC's come with $600 units that just might work on a Honda 2K,just maybe..

I am not giving $600 for a roof top when a $100 unit does better..I have replaced 3 roof tops,I did it all myself without labor.

The point is...Truck camper manufactures should realize they do not need an AC designed for large RV's yet they install the mammoths that may work but might not with a gen set.

Almost every car/truck and RV as well is build for extreme.
You can order RV with no AC, but if you do and it will be inadequate for southern weather, the customers would flow with complains.
The 12.5k AC on my camper is consider marginal. We camp with it last year in 120+ heat wave and it was barely enough even we had some shade.
When center of TC was OK, opening any cabinet was like opening the toaster.
Same with TC heater. Why did they install one for my camper?
And why they put a mammoth heater, when all I need is 5 BTU?

Well I’ve tried both, in the same camper, at the same time and I’ve got the opposite results to report.
The location was Black Rock Desert, Nevada in August, elevation about 4900 feet.
Temps around 100-ish.
I bring a 5k BTU window A/C as an emergency spare. I’ve tested it out and found it not quite adequate. It struggled to try to cool my camper, while the roof air had no problem even out there in the desert.
The other issue was it was at the rear of the camper and did almost nothing for the bed, where I really wanted to have chill space. The roof A/C mounted in the forward roof vent blasts cold air right where I want it, and the rest of the camper benefits from the central and high-as-possible location too.
In my application, 5k BTU and extreme-rear placement didn’t cut it.
It’s better than nothing, but that’s all it was better than.

Whats stoping you to instal household door lock on your RV?
Thats what I did,,dead bolt too
