Window issue

Our TC has 4 large windows: two are sliding windows (which means we can't open them much when it's raining), the other two have a plastic knob to fold open half of the windows. This plastic knob broke within a few times of usage on both windows! The plastic isn't strong enough, especially when you're turning the knob to close the window (the window "pops" into place if all goes well).
If this happened to us, I assume this must have happened to others: any long term fixes?

  • when I had sliding windows I installed some of those rain guards that were about a foot wide and mounted on the opening end of the window frame. allowed circulation but blocked rain. Instead of the supplied sheet metal screws I threaded the aluminum window frame to mount them.

  • Is the window too stiff? A newish knob (any style) shouldn't break that easily unless you're having to put a lot of weight into it. You might look at WD40ing the window crank, etc. and see if that eases things up.

Most plastic knobs will get brittle as they age, especially if they are getting a lot of direct sunlight. The round knobs cost less than $2 a piece, so it's not a big expense replacing them every 7-10 years.
