Try regular doses of peppermint oil.
There are several products out there that use peppermint or peppermint oil as the primary ingredient.
I have used one such product ("Mouse Magic") with very good results.
As far as access to the TC, don't help them get into it. They will easily climb up power cords. They can jump a bit too, so I don't leave ours all the down on the jacks.
