Winter water solution

Any experience for winter water use? I bought the heated hose for exterior, but still no water in cold weather. I noticed some one pipe ( should be the one to water heater) is exposed to outside, will insulation work? I always keep heater on 60F to 65F. Full-timer Rver.

Along with the heated hose I put a canvas tarp over the water riser at the campground. Spread the tarp out like a tent so any warmth from the ground is trapped by the "tent". Where the heated hose connects to the TT we extend the hoses "foam" collar as far as it will go then wrap a towel, secured with a small bungee cord around it over the connection. So far we've been good down to 19 degrees.

I noticed canvas tarp before, but weather here is way more colder than 19 degree. Will it still work?

I wouldn't trust a city water connection much below 30f even with a heated hose. Fill your on board tank and use it.

For real cold (below 0F) install heat trace and insulation on external hoses and pipes.

I checked the hose during cold time, it works. But the frozen place should be the pipe in the trailer. Since my tank does not have the insulation, I assume it will get frozee below 30F? Weather in Boston, probably 0-10F in next week.

    I don't understand this.

  • Heated hose won't keep the riser from freezing if it isn't traced. In fact having the valve open could cause damage to the CG supply line.
