WISDOM OF A HITCH EXTENSTION
We just finished our first trip in our 19 foot Airstream Flying Cloud. All went well except for one unanticipated issue. Having access to the truck bed for additional storage was important. But, the tailgate won't go down with the trailer attached. A short hitch extension I believe would solve the problem. I understand I will lose a little hitch capacity but I can tow over 7,000 lbs with my F150 with max load and towing packages and the trailer weighs 4500 plus contents. I was astounded how well the Airstream towed. I don't want to mess that up. I also hate to add about a foot of length since the rig fits EXACTLY in two parking spaces. But, it is rough climbing in and out of the truck cap window. Ford builds a TALL tailgate and these old bones are starting to age, hopefully gracefully. Any thoughts?
