Wolf Creek 850 Break in Period TR Oregon to the Redwoods

As we headed up to Oregon from San Diego to pick up our new Wolf Creek 850 Truck camper our friends sent us pictures of what Escondido, Ca looked like. We were thankful to be leaving Southern California.

We headed to Apache Camping Center to pick up our Factory Fresh Camper :)

Ed was awesome as we did the walk thru, it didn't take very long as I was pretty familiar with the Wolf Creek 850 already

The kids approved and we were on our way to stock up on food and nick nacks at walmart, fill the propane, gas up and go camping right away

after spending around $600 bucks at walmart (ouch) heading out the hwy 224 and couple hours later we found the first campground that looked nice and pulled in.

the kids were ready from some bike riding, and I was ready for a brewski

we explored the river

and enjoyed the lush forests of the northwest. I finally realized how much of a desert we live in!

We headed further in the "bush" to an amazing place called Timothy Lake

we found a cool campsite right on the lake, the kids wanted to fish so I quickly had to google how to tie a fishing knot. My last name being Sturgeon you would think I would be an angler, but that is not the case.

we looped around to hwy 26 on our way back into Portland and stopped by Mt.Hood

I was scheduled to work the following week in Portland trying to get plumbers to switch to my little green angle stop box. I guess we brought the sunshine with us from so cal :)

the week went great except my son had to get his two front teeth pulled. Luckily we have friends in Portland and they recommended the best Dentist on planet earth. Instead of most people in San Diego heading to Tijuana to get their dental work done, we will just head to Portland next time. I had the next 11 days off so the sky was the limit :)

We are super fans of the show Little People Big World and we have always wanted to get our Halloween pumpkins there. we were surprised to find out they offer private tours. We headed to the farm and since I forgot a measuring tape on the trip were able to measure the height of our rig on the way there.

Matt Roloff Picked us up in his Ranger and gave us a Private Tour of his amazing farm, complete with swamp forts, castles, tree houses, an old western town and a lot more :)

we headed west from Hilsboro on the 24 to the 101!

we ended up at Nehalem Bay State park

and our first taste of the amazing Oregon Coast

the sands a bit cleaner here than so cal

and there seems to be a bit more wood in the area

biking in the area is also pretty nice

and the sunsets aren't too bad either

It was memorial day weekend and we decided to head south down the coast hoping we would find a place to camp.

we heard seal rock rv cove was a nice place so we headed in.

they only had one site left which was for tent campers only. They said we could have the site if we could fit our rig in.

No problemo! Again the beauty of owning a Truck Camper

The beach right across from the campground is sweet

luckily we arrived at low tide and the tide pools were nice

We headed further down the coast

and ended up at Harris Beach State Park, Again the only sites they had were Tent Sites and they let us park our Rig

we explored the coast and wished we brought our kayaks!

we were very happy to have our bikes :)

Our final destination was the Redwoods so we headed to Jedidiah Smith State Park

This campsite will do :)

The smith river runs right behind the campground, which has some nice rocks for skipping

trying our fishing skills once again

we weren't having any luck so I though I would jump in and look around. I guess the salmon only come in the Fall. Looks like we will have to come back again.

We headed around to get on the opposite side of the smith river and explore the Stout Grove which is Howland Hill Road

south fork smith river, again we were missing our kayaks or at least our inflatable raft!

the road was closed to vehicles, so we had to break out the bikes

It was time to go check out other parks so we dumped, filled and headed out

again the 101 is an amazing drive

we decided on Prarie Creek Redwood state park and the Gold Bluff Campground and oh boy did we hit the mother lode!!!

the 6 mile drive in to the campground is stunning

and we were blessed with blue skies!

the campground is pretty basic,

It is where you are that is stunning

If there was a Truck camper "mecca" or 101 best campgrounds for a truck camper, this would be on the top of the list. There were several other truck campers and we felt right at home :)

The kids hit the sand

it was perfect not too soft, and not too hard

I was finally able to use my shovel on the trip!

Brett and his "sand angel"

And it just keeps getting better...

2 miles north of the campground there is Fern Canyon we wanted to check out

The local residents were checking us out as well

so we thought we would check them out

Elk Encounter video

we went further along the trail and were expecting to see dinosaurs

Fern Canyon

we woke up the next morning and felt like we were being watched
